If you are a fan of Japanese monster movies, then you’ll love “Voyage Into Space.” This movie has everything you need from your thrilling adventure films, and then some. It not only has a robot fighting to protect the earth from a horrible alien monster, but also has a great story of friendship and sacrifice. You can’t go wrong with this movie.
Our fable commences with a underground government association creating a oversize robot that will protect the earth against any and all strange invaders. The machine is constructed to be controlled by a simple looking pocket watch that doubles as an advanced transmission device. The only forewarning is that the initial creature who communicates to the massive robot using the timepiece communique apparatus will be the one who it will everlastingly be obedient too.
And the creature who speaks first to the giant robot is of course a juvenile, innocent boy. He is only playing when he first picks up the watch, unconsciously of course, and speaks to the automaton. But envisage his surprise when the robot obeys his every demand, and submissively protects the boy from all manner of damage that comes his way during this ambitious piece of film making.
At first, it would seem that the boy has uncovered a loyal acquaintance, accomplished of shooting missiles from his fingertips, and picking the boy up and taking him on speedy voyages around the globe. But this, of course, can’t last very long as the globe is soon invaded by hideous mutant aliens from the far reaches of space. This is when the true test of their acquaintance is determined. Will the boy and his newfound robot acquaintance risk all to protect the earth? Will they even be triumphant?
At first it seems as if the android will be victorious and defend the earth from the invading monsters, but all is not well. The invading monster is made from a exceedingly unstable material, and if he is shot, the complete globe will be ruined. So shooting the alien dead is not an option for our authoritative android champion. He must respond to the universal risk with radical measures indeed.
And in a depressed parable of self sacrifice, the robot grabs the monster, and carries him deep into the pits of space, where he will pose no risk to the blameless population of the world. This, of course, leaves the lad without his pal, but he learns a valuable moral. Sometimes you must go to intense sacrifices to rescue your friends, even to the point of sacrificing your own life. If you would like to watch a compelling show with a extreme moral message, look no further than “Voyage Into Space.
